Extended Warranty & Insurance - Purpose, Rules and Guidelines

Purpose

Extended Warranty & Insurance is the space for shop professionals sharing real-world claim-handling experience with third-party extended warranty companies.

This includes approval strategies, labor and parts disputes, claim timing, pre-authorization workflows, and patterns of claim pushback across carriers.

This category applies only to third-party service contracts. OEM warranties and auto insurance claims are out of scope and belong in General.


What Belongs Here

  • Pre-authorization workflows for specific failure types (engine, transmission, electrical, HVAC, suspension).
  • Claim-cycle timing: delays, bottlenecks, and acceleration strategies.
  • Parts and labor rate disputes with specific carriers.
  • Denial patterns tied to specific failures or claim language.
  • Appeal strategies after a denial, including documentation and escalation.
  • Cross-carrier observations about claim process differences (no rankings).
  • Contract language interpretation (coverage, exclusions, eligibility).

What Does Not Belong Here

Carrier names must be stated factually only. Do not include opinions or characterizations in titles.

Post Body Requirements

  • Carrier involved (if applicable).
  • Claim type (engine, transmission, electrical, HVAC, etc.).
  • Specific failure being claimed.
  • Claim stage (pre-authorization, teardown, parts approval, labor dispute, denial, appeal, payment).

PII Restrictions

  • Do not include customer names, VINs, contract numbers, policy numbers, or contact information.
  • Contract and policy numbers are considered PII and must not be included.
  • Do not include partial or anonymized versions of this information.

Category-Specific Rules

§5.1 — Factual Carrier Naming Only

Naming carriers is allowed when sharing factual claim experience.

Example: "Claim with Endurance took 18 days for authorization."

Do not include accusations or characterizations.

§5.2 — No Characterizations

Terms such as scam, fraud, fraudulent, criminal, thieves, racket and similar language are strictly prohibited.

State facts, timelines, and outcomes instead.

§5.3 — No Carrier Personnel Participation

Carrier representatives, adjusters, or affiliated personnel may not post in this category.

Identifying as a carrier-affiliated individual will result in immediate removal of the post.

§5.4 — No Claim Documents

Do not upload claim documents, denial letters, contracts, or carrier correspondence.

Short quoted excerpts (one or two sentences) are allowed when discussing contract language.

§5.5 — No Customer PII

No customer identifying information of any kind may be posted.

This includes names, VINs, contract numbers, policy numbers, addresses, and contact details.

§5.6 — No Manipulation Tactics

Share what documentation and language worked, but do not instruct members to provide false information to secure claim approvals.

§5.7 — No Shop Rate Disclosure

Do not post your shop’s specific contracted labor rates or agreements with carriers.

General industry observations are allowed.

§5.8 — No Ranked Carrier Lists

Do not post rankings such as “best carriers” or “worst carriers.”

Share factual experiences only.


Enforcement

Edited or Removed by Moderators

  • Title does not follow required format.
  • Post is in the wrong category.
  • Characterizations included alongside factual content (removed, facts retained).

Warning and Post Removed

  • Repeated use of prohibited characterizations.
  • Uploading claim documents or correspondence.
  • Posting customer PII, including contract or policy numbers.
  • Posting confidential shop rate agreements.
  • Creating ranked carrier lists.

Account Suspended or Banned

  • Posting as a carrier representative or affiliated personnel.
  • Repeat document uploads after warning.
  • Repeat PII violations after warning.
  • Posting fabricated claim outcomes.
  • Repeated instruction of manipulation tactics.
